The beginnings that still guide us

HLC’s story is a family story. Not in the sentimental sense, but in the practical sense of people showing up, year after year, to protect childhood, dignity, and the joy of learning.

From a small beginning to a shared purpose

HLC began as Headstart Nursery and Primary School on January 20th, 1995. In 1997, Vidyothsahi Educational and Charitable Trust (VECT) was registered to hold and protect the work.

In 2005, Mr. Naveen and Mrs. Raaji returned to Chennai and took on stewardship alongside Mrs. Sudha and Mr. Mahesh, carrying the school forward into its next phase.

Soon after, the school took on the name HLC International School, marking a clearer, larger commitment to the kind of education we were building.

A simple timeline

Key milestones that shaped the school we are today.

A leadership handover, without losing the centre

As you noted: Mr. Naveen and Mrs. Raaji took charge in 2005, while Sudha continued as Principal until 2023. In 2023, Bindu took over as Principal, carrying forward the culture and the daily discipline of the work.

This continuity matters because HLC is not built on individual charisma. It is built on culture, and culture is preserved through repeated actions, across years and across people.

The wider team that keeps the culture alive

HLC has always been held up by more than the founders. The culture is carried by the facilitators, support staff, and school leaders who turn values into daily practice.
